Lauren Rearick - Youth Minister INTRODUCTION Beginning at 7:00pm on Friday nights, a special event takes place in McLaughlin Hall. What is this event? This is a meeting of the Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Youth Club. The Youth Club was created three years ago in order to maintain a safe, spiritually-infused, social environment to help guide our parish teens through adolescence into adulthood. The ultimate mission of this group is to help form well-rounded Catholics for our parish and the wider community. Since its inception, the Youth Club has been a success, attracting approximately 25 parish youths between the ages of 11 and 15 per week. This year, the Youth Club is undergoing several changes. In addition to the social benefits of communing with their peers, our youth will be actively participating in all facets of life at our parish. This includes participating in the monthly Youth Mass, and having a monthly prayer and discussion meeting, which will focus on the critical issues teenagers face today. Furthermore, the Youth Club will be more active in the community through social service initiatives. In partnership with local service organizations, our parish youth will be spreading the Word of Christ through hands-on community service. There will be monthly opportunities for the youth to enrich their lives and the lives of others through serving their fellow man. This is just a sampling of the new changes to OLQM’s Youth Club --- there will be more to come! In sum, the Youth Club is growing into a notable ministry at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. But like any ministry, the Youth Club needs members from our parish who would like to participate in its good work. Whether you have a teenager who you would like to join, or if you would like to volunteer, you are welcomed with open arms! The Youth Club is looking for additional youth members, and adult role models to assist in our mission! If you or your child is interested in becoming a member of our parish’s Youth Club, please contact Lauren Rearick at olqm.yc@gmail.com or (646) 468-0105. God Bless!

Youth Ministry is WITH youth because young people share with adults a common responsibility to carry out the church's mission. Youth Ministry is BY youth when young people exercise their own ministry to others, particularly to their peers. SOME QUOTES “You can do nothing with children unless you win their confidence and love by bringing them into touch with yourself, by breaking through all the hindrances that keep them at a distance. We must accommodate ourselves to their tastes, we must make ourselves like them.” St. John Bosco, Patron Saint of Youth
“Be good, keep your feet dry, your eyes open, your heart at peace and your soul in the joy of Christ.” Thomas Merton |
